DESCRIPTION
POSITION: CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervising OTR; Director/Coordinator, Special Education
FLSA/CONTRACT STATUS: Exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by the Mineral County Board of Education.
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Mineral County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and Mineral County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.
JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct service according to a written treatment plan/IEP under the supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR)
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•
Follows supervision guidelines set by the West Virginia Board of Occupational
Therapy;
•
Maintains high standards of confidentiality, attendance, and
flexibility while working cooperatively with supervisors and other employees;
•
Possesses a working knowledge of Medicaid billing procedures;
•
Maintains daily notes that reflect concise and accurate
documentation skills;
•
Plans appropriate interventions in both direct and indirect
service delivery models;
•
Assists in data collection and evaluation;
•
Recommends modification of treatment approaches to the OT to
reflect the child’s changing needs;
•
Adapts environments, tools, materials, and activities according to
the child’s needs;
•
Communicates and interacts with other team members, school
personnel, and families in collaboration with an OT;
•
Develops and maintains a daily schedule, which includes sites,
students/classrooms and other activities/duties and communicates the schedule
to supervisor as changes occur;
•
Possesses organizational skills and flexibility to accommodate a
fluid schedule;
•
Travels to and among schools to provide services;
•
Lifts, transfers, and positions children and equipment as
necessary to provide occupational therapy;
•
Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students,
parents/guardians, and staff members;
•
Demonstrates behavior which reflects established professional
responsibilities;
•
Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 3210; and
•
Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor(s).
QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Hold
an Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant;
•
Be
certified and licensed as a COTA through the West Virginia Board of
Occupational Therapy
•
Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate;

job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the
ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple
demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
members.
