JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION:                                 DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, SECONDARY/ CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:      Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

 

FLSA/CONTRACT STATUS:     Exempt

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM:              261 Days

 

SALARY:                                    As per Mineral County Salary Schedule based on experience and education.

 

EVALUATION:                           Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Board Policy 5310 and Mineral County Board of Education Policy.

 

JOB SUMMARY:                       Provide direction and serve as a resource person to the staff in the areas of curriculum and instruction.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership and support in developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and instruction within general education/career and technical education program areas in Mineral County Schools;

  • Maintains a system for evaluating and selecting instructional materials and equipment and supervising an inventory control system;

  • Plans and coordinates Mineral County Staff Development Program as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Establishes and implements and improvement process for curriculum and instruction in general education program areas and the county staff development program;

  • Employs a program of instructional supervision and personnel management in general education areas, including the evaluation of employees(s) under his/her immediate supervision;

  • Provides a vision and leadership of assigned federal and Special Programs and ensures management functions are properly carried out in areas of assessment and planning, grant application and fiscal management, personnel supervision and management, and program design and management as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Provides leadership, management of operational procedures and support in developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and instruction within secondary/CTE curriculum and instructional program areas in Mineral County Schools as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Coordinates and maintains a system for evaluating and selecting instructional materials and equipment and supervising an inventory control system for Secondary/CTE curriculum and instruction programs as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Assists in establishing and implementing an improvement process for curriculum and instruction in the secondary/CTE program areas and the county staff development program as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Establishes good public and employee relations for secondary/CTE curriculum and instruction program areas;

  • Maintains professional work habits;

  • Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills in order to improve the school program;

  • Demonstrates instructional leadership to enhance school effectiveness by improving instruction and augmenting student performance in secondary/CTE curriculum and instruction and Federal and Special programs as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent;

  • Provides purpose and direction for secondary/CTE curriculum and instruction programs;

  • Provides leadership and support in developing, implementing and maintaining career and technical education programs for adults;

  • Establishes and implements an improvement process for career and technical and the mineral County Career and Technical Center;

  • Employs a program for instructional supervision and personnel management in career and technical education including evaluation of personnel under his/her immediate supervision;

  • Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals;

  • Manages group behaviors to achieve consensus;

  • Enhances quality of total school/county organization;

  • Organizes and delegates to accomplish goals;

  • Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 3210; and

  • Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor(s). 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid West Virginia Administrative Certificate;

  • Experience as a school-based administrator;

  • Teaching experience in PreK-12;

  • Demonstrates oral and written communication skills;

  • Experience in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation; and

  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
