JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:                                  HANDYMAN

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR(S):  Director of Support Services/Assistant Director of Support Services

FLSA/CONTRACT STATUS:      Non-exempt

EMPLOYMENT TERM:              Summer

SALARY:                                  Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mineral County Salary Scale, Pay Grade B, commensurate with experience and education level.

EVALUATION:                          Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of Support Services or the Assistant Director of Support Services

JOB SUMMARY:                       The job of Handyman is to perform routine manual tasks in any operation of the county school system.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

       Demonstrates appropriate safety, hygiene and health standards;

       Demonstrates safety of work area;

       Adheres to schedules; demonstrates punctuality;

       Demonstrates flexibility and adjusts to change;

       Performs duties in full compliance with state and county requirements;

       Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition;

       Performs routine tasks as assigned;

       Pressure washes buses including under carriage

       Cleans interior and exterior of county-owned vehicles including buses;

       Assists with the upkeep of bus garage and school grounds;

       Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 4210; and

       Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 3210; and

       Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor(s).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

       High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; 

       Meet the definition of “Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; 

       Demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required; and

       Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach overhead and shoulder height, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use interior and exterior rear view mirrors, and use repetitive motions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 100 pounds without assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  The work environment includes indoor as well as outdoor settings and can range in temperature from below freezing to 90°F.  The work surface can include unfinished crawl spaces and attics as well as roof tops, walk-in freezers, and concrete floors of pads.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
