Mineral County FFA Team Winners in Kansas at National 4-H Wildlife Habitat Education Program Competition
The Mineral County FFA team were the 2019 West Virginia Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) winners. The team consisted of Adam Iser, Robby Moncrief, Haylin Cook, and Ava Rexrode.

The team began practicing in February of 2019, won the state competition in May, and then went on to compete at Nationals in July. The team was supported in training efforts by Ed Myers. Their FFA advisor and coach was Julie Sions.

On July 16th 2019, after two days of putting wildlife management skills to the test in the great outdoors, as part of the National 4-H WHEP Contest, the team representing West Virginia placed 3rd among teams from across the nation. Adam Iser was 1st place FFA individual in the nation.

This year’s WHEP Contest was held in Junction City, Kansas. WHEP is a joint 4-H and FFA youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management to junior and senior level (ages 8-19) youth in the United States. Students learn wildlife terms and concepts, about wildlife habitat, how to judge the quality of wildlife habitat, about wildlife habitat management practices, and about wildlife damage management.

To participate students must be a member of 4H or their local FFA program. Interested students can attend courses at the Mineral County Technical Center.
