Imagination Library is Back in Mineral County!

The West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts along with Mineral County Schools Title I Department has partnered with country music superstar Dolly Parton and her Imagination Library. The purpose is to increase childhood literacy. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a program that enables all preschoolers in Mineral County to have their own Imagination Library. Just think, a book mailed to their home each month until their fifth birthday!

Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in the child’s name directly to the home. He or she can look forward to new and exciting reading adventures from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. They may do so until they turn five years old as long as they remain a resident of Mineral County. If they should move within West Virginia, contact the Mineral County Schools Title I Office to change the address so the child will not miss any books.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a FREE Gift to your children! All you have to do is read to your children. The key to proficiency in reading is to start early. Reading to a child can begin the day he/she is born! This partnership provides support for children and families in language and pre-literacy skills as a cornerstone to building success in school, work and life. Research shows that children who begin their school years behind their peers in pre-literacy skills, rarely catch up. The same children struggle to read through grade school and frequently get suspended during middle school. As a result, most drop out of school before graduating. Further support of reading is provided in the report from the Commission on Reading. It states that “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.”

We are in search of preschool brothers and sisters of Mineral County students. If you have a child who is age 0-4 years old and/or would like to know more about the program, please contact Mineral County Schools Title I, at 304.788.4200.

If you decide you would like for your child to participate, you may receive a form from your nearest primary school or the Mineral County Board of Education Office, Mineral County WIC Office or Mineral County Library. Then mail the form to the address provided or you may return it to your local primary school. We will then get your child registered to receive a book a month free until he/she is five years old!

You may also register your child online at:

If you have more than one preschooler, you will need to fill out one form for each child.
