Dear Wiley Ford families, Wiley Ford will be participating in a school wide money drive to help some of our veterans. Students may bring in their spare change and donate it to their classroom jar from May 4th through May 20th. The money that is collected will be donated to the GI Go Fund for jeans for troops. The classroom with the most change collected at school will get extra fun time. Also, if you would like to make a donation through the Wiley Ford page, please see the link on the letter that was sent home with your child. Dear parents, last evening I provided updates to the BOE regarding the issues of carbon monoxide at Wiley Ford Primary last week. Below is the update, which includes some updated information and clarifications. On Wednesday Dec 1, around noon, the principal had concerns of carbon monoxide in the building coming from the boiler room as she had received staff complaints of headaches.  She immediately called the fire department and evacuated the building.  When tested, levels were found to be high in the boiler room, but the classrooms measured zero. I understand these measurements could have been different at an earlier time, so I’m not insinuating the levels were consistently zero—we can only speak to measurements at the time of testing. The school was closed Thursday and Friday to tear down/repair the boiler.  The boiler repairs were completed last Friday and inspected again on Sunday, this included testing levels of Carbon Monoxide throughout the building. It was inspected/tested again Monday and Tuesday morning. We also placed additional Carbon Monoxide detectors throughout the school as an added measure to supplement our current system. I am still working to get the details from our alarm company to confirm if alarms did/did not malfunction.  I can confirm the system is fully functional along with the additional detectors placed throughout the building.   In my first message Wednesday, I stated the evacuation was triggered by an alarm going off—this was my understanding at the time.  I’ve since learned it was triggered by the principal’s concerns based on the number of staff complaining of headaches.   I apologize, in my haste to communicate, I misunderstood what prompted the actions.   With these types of incidents, our first priority is the safety of the kids/staff, then we look to get the issue fixed, and the last thing we do is figure out the details of what happened, what worked or didn’t work, and what can we do to avoid it in the future at this school or any other school.   I apologize for any miscommunication or lack of communication. We will can and will do a better job communicating with issues such as this. To close, I would like to thank our principal and staff along with our first responders for their rapid response and efforts to ensure student safety. Thank you
